Friday 9/11/20

Happy Friday! How are you? We started school this week and were only 20 minutes late to the first day of virtual learning 🤪 (But really…how?!) Also: our tenants moved out of the Poplar Cottage a little early so Garrett and I are deep in planning mode for that renovation (eek so excited!). And we moved the couch from the Dexter House into our living room and I think maybe…finally…this space is coming together. It only took me 4 years but I’m finally ready to hang some art on the walls! Oh and don’t mind the legos, they basically live here full time and we’re cool with that, right?!

More from the week…

Zoom Towns and the New Housing Market for the 2 Americas. “Many Americans — especially 30-somethings who remain employed — are ditching their tiny rental apartments in hip districts of expensive cities and moving to buy houses in more affordable cities or the burbs for a life of shopping at Home Depot and spending their Friday nights eating mozzarella sticks at Applebee's.” (npr)

The cutest calendar! I just ordered one for our Farmhouse to help us all keep track of what day it is. (amazon affiliate)

A rundown historic home becomes an oasis in Seattle.

Garrett sent me this podcast yesterday: ‘The Choices Before Us: Can fewer options lead to better decisions?’. So many of us are making big decisions during the pandemic and I share this as food for thought. (HiddenBrain).

This Portofino Farmhouse Makes the Case for Perfectly Imperfect Living. I’ve seen a couple images of this home before, but the whole tour blew me away! And for the record, I’m a big fan of perfectly imperfect living! (cocokelly)

A peek inside the Obama Family’s White House. Sigh. (architecturaldigest)

How do you fit a family of 4 into a cozy 700sf cottage? Taking all the small-space inspiration I can find as we plan the Poplar Cottage remodel! (domino)

This little blue cottage is making me rethink exterior paint colors (it’s BM Waters Edge)! LOVE! (@farmhouseonboon)

Our weekend plans: zucchini peach waffles. Highly recommend!

This week’s book recommendation is for kids but also kinda for adults. ‘Dinotopia’ is magical and beautifully illustrated and I’m reading it to the kids for the 3rd (4th?) time and enjoying every second. (amazon affiliate, indiebound)

Have a great weekend!
