THE FARMHOUSE

I can’t tell you how excited I am to show you our new kitchen sink and faucet! Not only are they beautiful, but guys, we don’t have to wash dishes in the bathroom anymore!!! Life changing.

We picked out Elkay’s Explore Bridge faucet and Fireclay Farmhouse sink, both for looks and function, and installed them ourselves. This is far from a kitchen reveal post - that’s still months away - but it feels good to celebrate progress. And the new sink and faucet are definitely something to celebrate.

We made quite a bit of progress on our kitchen since our last video update, so we’re sharing it all below. Highlights include cracking our marble slab (eek!), how we retrofitted the base cabinet to work with this deeper sink, DIY marble countertops, installing the sink and faucet, the great flooring debate, and more.

Picking the farmhouse Sink

Selecting our new sink began by pinpointing the things we didn’t like about our old sink: it was cracked and leaking, the basin was super tall (tough for the kids to use), and the integral backsplash broke up the line of the countertops and interfered with our country view. In addition to fixing those issues, we wanted a sink with a deep bowl, undermount sides, and an apron front for an ‘old Farmhouse’ feel. The Fireclay single-basin Farmhouse sink from Elkay checked all those boxes!

selecting the Faucet

I could write a love letter to this faucet, I’m that smitten! It’s the Explore Bridge Faucet by Elkay. The bridge style feels very ‘old world’, but there’s still something modern and clean-lined about it. The pull-down sprayer is a ‘must’ with kids and the lustrous steel is a gorgeous finish. As a rule of thumb, I try to limit the number of metal finishes in a kitchen to two or three (the appliance finish being one of them). And this steel faucet will tie in perfectly with the other steel elements in our kitchen.

It is SUCH a joy to have a kitchen sink and faucet again! Especially ones as beautiful as these.

our favorite faucet 3 ways

Did I mention that this is our third time using the Elkay Explore faucet?! Like I said, I’m smitten with it! Here are the three sinks we’ve paired our Explore faucets with and the Modern-Farmhouse-style rooms we’ve put them in.
