Starting the Farmhouse Pantry
THE FARMHOUSE
It’s a new year and we’re feeling refreshed and ready to tackle more of our Farmhouse projects. First up…the pantry. This space has been in the works since we moved the laundry out of it last Spring, and it’s time to finish it.
the before
Let’s rewind back to 2016 when we first bought our Farmhouse. This room was originally the laundry room. Maybe not originally originally (our Farmhouse was built in 1912 and has seen a few renovations), but that’s what it was when we moved in. Here’s the only picture I could find.
The plan
As part of our kitchen and laundry room remodels, we rearranged the first floor plan a bit. We moved the laundry into the adjacent room and reimagined the space as a walk-in pantry. Like so…
Once we moved the laundry to the laundry room, we partly-demo’d the pantry. We couldn’t fully demo it until the hot water heater was moved to the basement, and we couldn’t do that until the gas service was brought to the house. Don’t get me started on that fiasco…
So the room sat in limbo for a few months.
We got our new gas service just before Labor Day, so we finished up demo and paneled the walls. We also brought the refrigerators from the dining room into here.
A refrigerator in the pantry
Let’s just get this out the way…our refrigerator is going in the pantry. People seem to have strong opinions about that, but we just wanted an efficient, functional, and aestethically-pleasing layout and the fridge going inside the pantry was the best option. We’ve actually had the fridge in here since Labor Day and no complaints!
Just as we were finishing the kitchen remodel, we decided to refinish the pantry floors.
(BTW we didn’t suspect the flooring gunk was hazardous, but we still wore masks, opened the windows and pointed a fan outside, and plastic-ed off the doorway while scraping and refinishing.)
We’ve done a lot of the heavy lifting in here already, but it’s time to finish it out!
inspiration…
The pantry will look a lot like our kitchen remodel - paneled walls, marble countertops, crafted details, white paint. Like so…
We can’t wait to get this space finished up!
