We added a Foot Pedal to The Poplar Cottage Kitchen Faucet!
THE POPLAR COTTAGE
Back in 2023, we added a small gadget to the Farmhouse kitchen sink that garnered big attention. I’m talking about our foot pedal, of course. It was the upgrade we never knew we needed but loved so much that we added one to the Poplar Cottage kitchen sink. Sharing all the details on this water-saving device below including why we can’t live without it and a discount for you guys below! psst: our foot pedal was kindly gifted by Principle Faucets - all opinions are our own.

These foot pedals work with your existing faucet and are a bit of an investment, but once you have one, you’ll find yourself wondering why every sink doesn’t have one. They’re just so convenient!
If you’re not familiar with how a foot pedal works, let’s get into it…
How you use a foot pedal
Our foot pedal garnered a lot of attention back in 2025 - like 10-million-views on Instagram kind of attention! - so I know people are curious about them. Here’s how you use it…
Set the flow and temperature with your faucet handles and then press the foot pedal to turn the water on and off. Here are the three basic controls:
Hold down - hold the pedal down to run water. You can adjust the pressure on the foot pedal to get more or less water. Water stops when you release the foot pedal.
Tap once - tap the pedal once and the water will flow continuously without your foot on the pedal. Press on the pedal to stop or the 2-minute timer will shut it off automatically.
Tap twice - tap the pedal twice and the system will default back to the faucet's hand levers for water control. When ready to use the pedal again, simply press the pedal and return the faucet's hand-lever to the open position. This is handy if you have friends coming over and don’t want to explain how to use the foot pedal to everyone ;)
what we love about foot pedals
A third hand - these pedals make cooking, watering plants, washing hands, baking sourdough, filling giant pots, etc etc easier. It’s as close as you can get to a third hand in the kitchen! Also they work just as well in a bathroom. Maybe we should put one in there too…!
Decreased water usage - foot pedals can help you save water, Principle Faucet claims up to 44%! We’ve definitely found that we have more control of water consumption with the foot pedal.
Kid-friendly! - these foot pedals have really made the sink more accessible for our kids when they’re little! Instead of having to reach the faucet, they can just use the foot pedal to fill up water bottles or help with dishes. Bonus: the faucet stays cleaner without all the little hands on it ;)
