How To Add Color and Pattern to a Bedroom
THE DEXTER HOUSE
I always love beautiful white bedding. It’s classic, inviting, and (to appease the mother in me) easily washed. But with Spring in the air, one sometimes wants a little more in the bedroom. More color. More pattern. More life. So we teamed up with The Company Store to transform a classic white bed into one that’s patterned, colorful, and fresh for Spring. Read on for our favorite tips for adding color and pattern to your own bedroom.

The Dexter House master bedroom is a favorite of our’s with simple white walls, black floors, and a giant wood headboard (a Craigslist score). This property is now an Airbnb so we get to enjoy it whenever we’re in Seattle. Here’s what we the room looked like with our simple white bedding.

Classic. Inviting. Easily Washed. But we wanted a little more for Spring. So we swapped out a few of our white basics for some colorful picks from The Company Store’s fashion bedding line. And we captured it all on video…
Tips for adding color and pattern to your bed
For this little Spring makeover, we opted for a bold botanical print from the Company Store’s Cstudio Home line. I love how alive it feels against the white walls and wood headboard. But it’s not overdone. The bedroom still feels relaxing. Here are 5 tips to steal for updating your own bedroom for Spring.
Start with a neutral base // Invest in neutral basics because they’ll never go out of style and easily pair with everything. We usually stick to all white, but a solid off-white or gentle color works too. When you want to update the look, it’s easy to swap out one or two elements.
The Company Store mattress protector, mattress pad, pillow protectors, down pillows, sheet set, gossamer blanket, organic down comforter, and duvet cover (all in white)
Add solid layering blankets // Layers are essential for a bed, and they’re easy to swap out for a new look. We like to stick to super-soft, solid prints for this element so we can use them with any pattern.

Swap out throw pillows // Throw pillows are a great way to make your bed feel fresh. We opted for euro size to create a nice back rest and covered them in a fresh botanical print.

Layer textures // Texture is a great way to update the feel of a bed…literally! Layering textures brings interest and comfort to a bed without adding too much distraction.

Stick with one bold pattern // limiting yourself to one bold pattern, in this case The Company Store’s Cstudio Home Tropical Floral print, is a great way to ensure your bedroom doesn’t get too busy. If you want to layer on another pattern, go for it, but pick one that doesn’t compete with the main attraction (such as simple stripes).
