The Budget Breakdown of Our Farmhouse Kitchen

THE FARMHOUSE

Last month we shared our Farmhouse kitchen reveal and today I wanted to breakdown the budget. We’ve done a lot of kitchen remodels over the past decade at a variety of price points, and this one rang in at the most. But, we still feel like it was a really reasonable total. Let’s get into the numbers!

The Farmhouse kitchen is our 9th kitchen remodel in the past decade (what?!). Two of those projects were done at family/friends homes but otherwise we’ve been on the hook for every penny of our kitchen remodels. And we’re always really careful with the budget.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane and share a few of our previous kitchen remodels and their budgets…

And our Farmhouse kitchen came in at just under $21,500.

Whoa! $21k is a lot of money - not outrageous for a kitchen remodel, but a lot more than we’ve spent in the past. I will mention that number includes products we negotiated for free (one way we support this blog) and things we already owned like the hutch and pendants. If you’re curious, our actual out-of-pocket cost was closer to $12,500. And I’ll explain how that shook out in the breakdown below.

I always struggle with breaking out the cost of one room from a larger remodel, but I’ve done my best below. We didn’t include the gas line, associated permits, and new hot water heater in this total since those were whole-house costs. But I did include the gas rough-in for the stove. I also included the fridge (which is in the pantry) but we didn’t include any other pantry costs since we haven’t finished that space and that’s still an unknown.

We didn’t have any costs associated with cabinets, flooring, and windows since we reused the existing. And there are zero dollars for labor in this number since we DIYed every inch of the space. So if you’re tackling a similar remodel but have a different starting point and skill set, your number will likely be higher.

I’ve denoted items we already owned with ‘*’ and products we received for free with ‘**’. The prices shown for items we didn’t pay for were pulled from their respective online stores on 1/10/19.
