A Furniture Switcheroo in the Office
THE FARMHOUSE
Our office has never really worked for us. We’ve spent years moving around furniture and swapping out pieces, so…we decided to empty everything out and bring in only pieces we want in here for the summer. Let me show you…
Summer is a beautiful, slow season around here. The kids are home (and I mean home home - we didn’t sign up for a single camp), Garrett and I tend to spend less time on our computers, and we have lots of family and friends coming to visit. I guess you could say summer is slow on pace but busy with people. We love it! And we decided this office could work better for us for the season ahead as a multi-functional space.
So Garrett and I spent a couple of days cleaning, organizing, purging, and rearranging furniture. I’m not going to lie, this office was a giant mess before and as someone who renovates, decorates, rents, and shares homes for a living, I’m kinda embarrassed to show you, but it looked like this…
Our goal for this switcheroo was to create a space that was calm and inviting - a space Garrett could do work in (I moved my computer and stuff to the guest bedroom desk, which gets better light), the kids could read/relax in, and overflow guests could use too. Oh and we wanted to use mostly furniture and decor that we already owned. Here’s how it all came together…
The bedding is all new, but basically everything else we already owned. We have a stash of things in our basement that we’ve collected over the years (a hazard of owning Airbnbs and rentals). We’re hoping to do a big yard sale and get rid of most of it soon, but in the meantime, it came in pretty handy.
Here’s a moodboard I put together of the space. We ended up swapping out the desk chair for one I had bought on FBMP last year and we didn’t use the sconce, but you get the picture…
secretary desk (vintage - from FBMP), daybed (similar), linen pillow, Swiss cross pillow, rug (in ink/salmon), curtain rod, curtains, art by David Brazier, organic cotton sheets, gossamer blanket, cable knit throw, sconce
Really looking forward to enjoying this space this summer!
