Happy Friday 5/29/20

Happy Friday! How was your week? We had some ups and downs (ahem landlording) this week, but we’re thankful and growing and taking it day by day. My favorite moments: the kids picking mint from our property for homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream, buying a much-needed lawnmower off of Craigslist, planting more Dahlias in our flower field, an old French armoire making it’s way from the Dexter House basement to our living room, and my sweet husband cutting my gray hair (there’s only a tiny bit of dye left). That guy sure is handy 😉

The last of our lilacs in the Farmhouse pantry

Our lilac season ended last week and I’m missing these flowers already. But Nana and I are trying to propagate some stalks to hopefully get more of these beautiful blooms in the future. Excited to see if this little experiment works.

More from the week…

On risk: “not all risks will make a big splash. Some will be forged in patience, steady and unhurried.” These wise words from Joanna Gaines feel significant right now. (magnolia)

Are you a minimalist or a maximalist? I loved both of these home tours so much - and I think I’m somewhere in between. Also, this ending quote from the maximalist tour: “I would tell Marie Kondo, everything here sparks joy“. Amen. (cupofjo)

Finding joy in today. “As our world shrinks to the size of our homes, the more joyful the simple pleasures can feel. Joy is joy any way you slice it (or photograph it, cook it or watch it).” This is a series of short articles on joy, and this one was my favorite. (newyorktimes)

In case you were looking for the best peanut butter cookie recipe (🙋🏼‍♀️) the kitchn tested a bunch for us. Consider this my weekend plans. (thekitchn)

An oldie but a goodie: an austere, historic farmhouse in Ohio. (decoratorsnotebook)

This made me laugh: possibly-explicable things people sometimes say about cooking beans. (shatnerchatner)

Kate Arends has a new home and I’ve never been more excited to see a space unfold. “I decided to keep the quirks of the home we had purchased instead of washing them away.“ (witanddelight)

Sourdough pizza. It’s a favorite at our house!

The most amazing screened-in porch I’ve ever seen. (domino)

I picked up The Book of Lost Friends last week at Costco and am loving it (Amazon, Indiebound)! I usually try to borrow rather than buy books, but with the library closed and me trying to limit screen time, it’s been nice to make exceptions.

Have a great weekend!
