How we Hang Art on our Picture Rail Molding
THE FARMHOUSE
Many of the main floor rooms in our Farmhouse have dark wood picture rail molding. I love it SO much. It makes hanging (and changing!) art so easy - no holes or paint touchups required. And today I wanted to show you exactly how we hang art from our picture rail using beautiful brass hanging rods. Let’s get into it…

If you don’t know, picture rail molding is that molding near our ceiling that wraps around the room. It can be at the top of the window molding or all the way at the ceiling crown molding and is usually 1 1/2” to 2” thick. You can find a profile here.
To hang art from the molding, we use these French gallery rods (the website is a bit dated but they have great service and ship quickly!). The rod curves at the top and hooks over the molding. Then an adjustable hook (adjustable as in you can move it up and down) tightens onto the rod and your art hangs on that. According to the website, “we recommend not less than 3 pounds or more than 35 pounds. If heavier, you can use two rods.”
The rods come standard with one hook but you can add more to stack multiple pieces of art. I love hanging two or more pieces on one rod - it’s gives a fun art gallery vibe!
So tell me, do you have picture rail molding?
