The Top 10 Posts of 2019
At the end of every year, I love to look back at the goals we set, the remodels we tackled, and the posts we wrote here on the blog. And today we’re going to do just that. We’re sharing how 2019 wrapped up, the remodels we tackled, and the top 10 posts from the year.
This year was all about our Farmhouse, as we predicted it would be. Our goal was to make the Farmhouse more livable, spend our time and money where our hearts are, and be less busy. We definitely achieved the first two of goals and tried really hard with the third.
This year we tackled the remodels of our garden, kitchen, and laundry room. All of those made our lives more enjoyable and were done on relatively small budgets. We also bought the Poplar Cottage, a 600sf rental house in Ellensburg, and we opted to rent it out for a year rather than renovate it right away. Our last big purchase of the year was a 1977 Airstream Argosy trailer, which we named ‘the Landlady’ and took it out on the road in July.
top 10 blog posts of 2019
Now for the posts you guys read the most in 2019. I went ahead and removed Friday posts from this list because quite a few of those snuck in (I love how much you guys like those!). So this list is everything else.
Let’s start with #10 and work up to the most popular post of 2019…
#10 // How to Replace a Skeleton Key
This is one of those ‘old house hacks’ I stumbled across and had to share. Too many old houses come with beautiful skeleton-style locks and zero keys. Now you know how to replace those keys!
We remodeled our Farmhouse laundry room in conjunction with the kitchen (and soon-to-be pantry) and wrapped this project up in September. It’s been a huge upgrade to our Farmhouse!
We finally shared the reveal of our Porch House kitchen, 2 years after we finished it in front of HGTV’s cameras. This is still one of my favorite projects to date.
We shared the calamity that lead to a shattered glass door at our Airbnb property. I was surprised to see how popular this post was, but perhaps you guys like seeing what it’s like to be a landlord/host…???
Our Farmhouse kitchen remodel took up much of our 2019 both mentally and physically. And you guys have been on the journey with us the entire time. The upper cabinets were a big giant question mark for us from the beginning and I love how they turned out.
We swapped our Farmhouse master bedroom curtains for inexpensive IKEA Lenda curtains and shared an honest review. (Spoiler: they’re great!)
Shaker pegs have become a staple of our budget-friendly remodels and we shared a DIY on how to install them this year. I’m so glad to see you guys like these inexpensive and beautiful hooks as much as we do!
We interviewed 5 other home owners about the size of their home and how it works for them (you might recognize these houses!). This was a favorite post for me too and I’m hoping to share a follow up next year.
I spent a lot of time looking at neutral paint colors this year for our own kitchen (even though we ended up going white) and I shared that research in this post. We’re glad to put in the work so you don’t have to!
We wrapped up our Farmhouse kitchen remodel and shared the reveal in December (like just 2 weeks ago). So many of you followed along on this project here on the blog and on Instagram, and your enthusiasm for the reveal meant the world to us. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Want to know what surprised me? No money posts and no garden posts made this list. Of course the garden reveal was months after we finished the project - plants need time to grow and all that - so some of the newness had worn off. But the garden was definitely a highlight of our year. And you guys obviously liked it as the ‘How Much Our Garden Renovation Cost’ post grabbed the #11 spot.
Thanks for following along this year, being apart of this community, and allowing us to be a part of your year.
xoxo
