Home Tour :: the Historic Dr Pepper House in Waco, TX
WACO, TX
We’re home from Texas, and I wanted to share a tour of the beautiful Waco Airbnb we stayed at. On a total impulse this Fall, we booked this popular boutique stay, an old home called the Dr Pepper House (yes, that Dr Pepper) to host a mini family reunion with Garrett’s family. Let me show you around…

Isn’t she a beauty?!
The house was built in 1885 by Wade Morrison, the owner of a corner drug store in Waco. Morrison had a young pharmacist by the name of Charles Alderton in his employ who liked to experiment with syrups for the carbonated drinks at the soda fountain. As the story goes, he hit upon the perfect mixture of fruit syrups and Morrison named the new drink Dr Pepper (you can read more of the soda’s history here).
But back to the house… It was renovated in the early 2000’s by David Crowder (a Christian rock singer) and has 6 bedrooms and 4.5 baths and is STUNNING!
The kitchen gets the BEST natural light and if you threw a bed in the corner, I could live in this room! Of course there’s lots more to see in this 6,000sf home…
The dining room has red upholstered walls, which I was swooning over. They’re incredibly soft and beg to be touched.
The first floor also has a den filled with leather chairs and antiques. When I shared a photo on Instagram, lots of you asked for the paint color. Jed kindly shared that it’s Riverway by Sherwin Williams :)
Let’s head upstairs to the second level, which holds 3 primary suites, 1 kids bedroom, an office nook, sunroom/tv-room, and more upholstered walls.
And up another flight of stairs to the third floor you’ll find a very sweet kids play room, two double beds, a separate king bedroom, and bathroom. Since this area is way up in the attic (I climbed a million stairs while we stayed here, ha!) you get the sweetest sloped ceilings and arched windows.
That last photo is from the game room over top the garage. With 5 kids in our group, this was THE spot to be every night :)
But all of our favorite spot in the whole house was the backyard. It’s a beautifully manicured space and the sunshine didn’t hurt matters ;) The yard has an expansive lawn perfect for lawn games, a pool (sadly unheated, but that didn’t stop our kids from enjoying the heck out of it!), a hottub, and a cabana with a couch, fireplace, and built-in bbq. Getting to enjoy the sunshine and 80-degree temps out here in February felt unreal!
With a backyard like this, we ended up cooking or ordering in a lot just to enjoy this space and the warm weather! And we were pleasantly surprised by the lack of mosquitoes (is that normal in Texas?!).
This house was our main draw to Waco (of course we didn’t mind check out the Magnolia Silos and Castle!) and she was even better in person. You can find the Dr Pepper house’s Airbnb listing here. Thanks for having us, Jed!
