Farmhouse Pantry // A Solid Marble Backsplash With Curved Corners (I Really, really love It!)
THE FARMHOUSE
Garrett has been fabricating marble up the wazoo for two days now, and oh my goodness it looks amazing! The backsplash in particular is a work of art. Anyone that’s dabbled in stone fabrication knows that curves are difficult and Garrett cut, sanded, and honed this backsplash all by himself. He added concave corners for me and I love that it feels both old world and fresh at the same time. Today we wanted to share the finished product, talk a bit about the design, and show you what the DIY process looked like.
Isn’t the backsplash lovely?! Garrett spent hours and hours outside in winter weather while soaking wet, to create it for me. He’s a keeper ;)
the DIY process
We thought you might like to see what the process of building this beautiful looked like. So Garrett and I put together a quick video last night. Yesterday was a long day and we’re literally drinking our bed-time tea in this video, we really wanted to get this post out today since I know a lot of you were eager to see the finished product! The video details the design and the process of DIYing this backsplash.
Here are the tools Garrett mentioned in the video:
Ear and eye protection as well as masks are recommended
from scrap pile to backsplash
Hard to believe all this marble was just sitting in our scrap pile two days ago, right?!
Inspiration
I’ve been seeing curved corners on marble backsplashes more and more lately. I love that they feel like a throwback to a bygone era yet also remarkably new. Here are a few projects that inspired our design:

A Design Template
To create the curve detail, we started with a piece of cardboard. I shared more about this in the video, but we played around with the height of the cardboard and the size of the cutouts. To create the concave circle, we used a few different circular objects from our kitchen to find the right radius (a cup and then a bowl and then a bigger bowl and then a plate…) and drew them on the cardboard. In the end, we opted for a radius equal to the distance between the top of the backsplash and the center of the plumbing. We cut that circle out of the cardboard and here’s what our template looked like. BTW the overall dimensions are 12”x26”.
I’m a happy girl! Garrett did say he wouldn’t do any more curved marble fabrication, but I’m confident he’ll change his mind. How could he not when it turned out so beautifully?
Oh and before I leave you, a little update on the pantry faucet. After reading all your comments and talking with Garrett, I ordered TWO faucets last night (hint: one’s brass and one’s not). We’ll pick our favorite of the two later this week. You can catch all the action on Instagram.
