Happy Friday 2/14/20

Happy Friday! And happy Valentines Day! I was up late last night with our 6-year-old frosting a double batch of sugar cookies (with our favorite fluffy, naturally-colored buttercream!) for his class celebration and addressing Star Wars cards to each and every one of his classmates and teachers. Valentines Day may be really commercialized these days, but I love that it makes us stop and say nice things to the people in our lives.

More from the week…

The price of modern parenting. “I often say raising a child in the United States is like taking all your money, setting it on fire and flushing it down the toilet.” Eek! Garrett and I were surprised at the numbers shared in the article…are you? (nytimes)

What a beautiful, happy home! (cupofjo)

The American Life is killing you. “Your life is so much more precious than the automation it has become. I think deep down you feel it, you know it.” BTW this is kind of an intense article and the language is harsh, but I thought it was worth sharing anyway. (medium)

Winnie’s pretty wallpapered bathroom. I recently came across a photo of this space and was struck by how much I still love it.

I got some new kicks: these everyday tennies and these super comfy running shoes and am so in love with them both! BTW I got the running shoes at Road Runner in Seattle with a pair of their AMAZING custom insoles, in case you’re local! Sneakers for life!…mostly because my back hurts too much if I try to wear anything else 🤪. (Nordstrom)

I caught a tour of Megan’s parent’s home on Instagram last weekend and was blown away. It was built in the 1990s and looks at least 100 years older! Megan saved the tour in her highlight ‘Mom and Dad’ and I highly recommend checking it out and giving Megan a follow (her home is lovely, too!). (@Megan.d.miller)

How one family (of 8!) paid off all their debt - yes, including the mortgage - and is committed to staying debt free! So many lessons to be learned from Lisa and her family in this podcast (episode 12). (FarmhouseonBoone.com).

Two grams that stopped me mid-scroll this week: this bright bathroom and this dreamy bedroom (with a fireplace!). (Instagram)

Moving to Georgia to fix up this old house (it’s only $70k!). Just kidding of course…but I hope someone buys this old beauty! (@cheapoldhouses)

Have a great weekend!
