The One Piece of Furniture I Excluded from the Farmhouse Sale
THE FARMHOUSE
In the buyer’s offer on the Farmhouse, they asked for all of the furnishings with the house. There was a little back and forth, but we eventually settled on leaving the furniture and rugs…except one piece that I couldn’t bring myself to part with. Can you guess what it is?
It’s one of the furniture pieces shown in the collage. Do you have a guess?
Okay, the answer is…
…
…
…
Daphne’s darling chaise lounge!
rug, curtain rods, chaise lounge (vintage), sweater, tank
Yup, the one I got on Facebook Marketplace this winter for $90. Why? Well it’s a quality piece that 1. Daphne loves, 2. I love, and 3. it’s one-of-a-kind and not something I could easily replace. It’s a custom piece, down-filled, and just really well made. Replacing it would cost thousands and probably wouldn’t turn out as cute.
If you were guessing my Nana’s table in the living room, I should mention that I had already removed that for staging (I’ll share a full tour soon!). The house looked so good that we know it was a possibility that the buyers might ask for some furnishings. So I was prepared to part with some or all of the furniture, at least in theory. But the offer came in so quickly and we only got a few hours to review it and it was hard to think straight.
Am I bummed we are parting with all the furniture and rugs (minus Daphne’s chair?). Kinda, yeah. It took many, many years to collect all those pieces and many are vintage and one-of-a-kind. But am I excited to start fresh at the new house? Yup, 100%. There’s years of Facebook-marketplacing and collecting furnishings in my future and they’ll be purchased with the new house in mind. Plus Garrett’s already promised he’ll make more marble-top tables for me :)
A few other things… the window coverings are staying with the house. Our realtor told us that was pretty standard and we should remove any curtains we didn’t want to part with before listing the house (I couldn’t bring myself to take any down). And we did exclude all of the art, decor, and pottery from the sale. But we may go back and offer a few things once we can sort through them.
Like all things with selling this house, parting with so many of our possessions is bittersweet. Exciting and daunting all at once. But we’re excited to start fresh at the new house and pick things out what will be a slightly different vibe. What do you think, am I crazy to say goodbye to so much of our furniture? Would you have kept Daphne’s chair?
